Noisy chain - 06BUSA - 20-02-2013
Ok dudes and dudets, I've put the brand new DID X ring 530 chain on my 06 Busa with new sprockets on and I'm trying "no lube" this time, unfortunately now when I ride it it sounds like a 4WD with knobbly tyres on it. The faster I go the noisier it is! Didn't have that noise with the original chain and sprockets but had heaps off lube on it. Is that the difference??? To lube or not to lube??

????? why no lube ????? That's a hell alot of friction between parts going on there....like deciding no oil in your engine!

lube ur chain,
u dont need to saturate it,
and lube the chain when its hot
itll soak in better.

I think his argument is the chain comes pre-lubed. The o-ring holds the lube inside. Any lube you put on only goes on the outside so does no help in lubing the moving parts, but does attracts dust, dirt and grime which is abrassive to the o-rings.
Did I get that right ?? . . . Andrew . . . Shifu . . . ?
btw - I drown my chain in lube
but I grew up in the era before o-ring chains and I'm a slow learner.

Yes I would like a definitive answer to this one. My Bandit...pre Busa days... had an 'O' ring chain fitted by me and the blurb said not to oil it as mineral oil destroys the 'O' rings. I ended up oiling it to prevent wear and rusting on my sprokets

Don't we oil the chain to lube the sprockets, not so much the chain itself. And how better would lube sock in to w 'hot' chain, as heat expands metal?

I don't use chain oil....it flings off and makes a bloody mess.....I prefer Maxima Chain Wax....it seems to stay put longer.
And yes, only lube your chain when it's warm/hot.

Try not to get involved in these chats usually as it often becomes a bun fight. But a roller chain has to be lubed, O-ring, X-ring or standard non-sealed roller. The mechanical reason for this is simple. The outer roller, that being the one that meshes with the sprocket is not sealed. It does not have to tolerate the same loads as the main pin and bushings that are sealed but still requires lubrcant. Have a close look at the chain. The outer rollers butt up flush against the insides of the inner plates. No seals.Paul.

What front sprocket did you buy? if it's an after market one with no rubber cush like the oem has it will be noisier
Yeah also check your adjustment and alignment and please put some good quility lube on

I use Motul chain lube. It sticks like the proverbial to a blanket and my rim stays very clean. Only downside I can think of, is, if it's that sticky, then foreign matter must be sticking to it. I just give it a good degrease every weekend, and re-apply more lube
