FI bike cutting out - pete - 26-08-2012
hey guys,
had been riding my bike all day today,
but on the way back home i lost count of the number
of times the bike cut out and the FI light was flashing,
i could turn the ignition off and back on again and the bike would restart,
i did a search and couldnt find anything, also checked the owners
manual and all they suggest is take it too suzuki,
any ideas what i might need to suss out?

just to add when the fi light was flashing
there was _ _ _ _ in the time display.

i found this doing a search on the net
Remove the rear seat/hump and look on the left side for a covered connector. It should have two wires going to a 4-pin connector. With the ignition on and kill switch off (run position), jump the two wires on this connector. Look at the dash at the top display. It will reveal a code or codes listed sequentially. If you already have a manual, look in chapter 4 for the codes (the manual is available here, although I think it is currently not working). In the mean time, post any codes and I will translate.
BTW, C00 is the 'normal' code (no errors). This needs to be done when you get an FI light. All codes will be reset when you turn the ignition to the 'off' position and you will only see them again if a sensor has already failed or until the conditions for the previous failure are met again.

would be much appreciated.

i did wash the bike a cpl of days ago
so it might have something to do with it.

just did the diagnostics check
came up c00, so no fault,
will i have to do this check straight after
the lite comes on?

i took it for a ride after doing the diagnostic check
and it cut out on me 3 times whilst in traffic,
ive got no idea so any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you've had water in your tank or in the fuel?

i recently put some fuel additive in the tank
about a week ago, but ive run a cpl more tanks
of fuel since, i could try and stick some metho in the tank.

just a thought mate. Water in the fuel would give you problems like you're having, but if you've already gone through a few tanks and also used a fuel additive.....safe to rule that one out.

all good matey, any info is better than none,
im going to leave the wire in place and see if thatl
tell me something next time it does it,
every time i do a diagnostic check after it comes
up with no faults, it gets hairy when it decides to shut off
in the middle of traffic.

after re reading the attached link that greeny posted (thanx)
i kept the wire in the diagnostic plug as suggested
by Maj (thanx) i got a reading of c23 which appears
to be the tip over switch,
so would this mean i just have to realign it or
does it need replacing?
on the upside after resetting, the bike
has noticable more torque down low than it had previously.

To be on the safe side i would replace with a new one

all good Rod,
i located the tip over switch and the bracket was broken
allowing the switch to flop around under the tank,
i was so worried it might be something expensive
glad it wasnt, i also learnt a bit on the way.
