Honda VTR SP1 or SP2 - RyanG - 31-05-2012

Hey all,

Thought I would try to gather the collective opinions...

Has anyone ridden or could offer their opinion on either the SP1 or SP2 Honda? How are they?

Tossing up getting one. Either one of these or a Buell XB12....

Cheers

I have ridden an SP1 of my brothers. I dont know what has been done to the engine but it can fair get up and go.

And actually its not that bad on fuel.

I would not suggest it if you want to ride long trips. They are very hard on the wrists. But a great bike for short blasts and windy roads.

He is looking at selling by the way if you want to test ride one in sydney.

Hope that helped

Have not ridden but personally SP2 with SP1 close second.
Love the V-Twin Sporties after owning the TLR.
Good luck buddy!!

SP2 without doubt.

RE: Honda VTR SP1 or SP2 - RyanG - 31-05-2012

Yeah was even tossing up the TLR too, but have been scared off a bit by the head shake rumors.... Besides the SP1 or 2's seem to be becoming collectible/cult bike (not dissimilar to 99 busa's)

Whys that? Cannot figure out the differences.... Is one better than the other?

SP2's are as rare as hens teeth. If you come across one...buy it.

Head shake ? just stick a steering damper on it , great bike.

RE: Honda VTR SP1 or SP2 - CeeJay07 - 01-06-2012

Weren't the early TL's recalled to fit a steering damper?

RE: Honda VTR SP1 or SP2 - VNSVLE - 01-06-2012

You are correct CeeJay07 they were recalled for the head shake early on.
Never had an issue with head shake on mine. It was a 2000 Model could not have been happier with it.
Have a look here buddy may have some info you are looking for about the SP's - http://www.rc51forums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7158

RE: Honda VTR SP1 or SP2 - Stuntrider666 - 03-06-2012

Either. Both very much the same, awesome machines. If I was buying one, I'd get the SP2.

RE: Honda VTR SP1 or SP2 - Vellaterra - 03-06-2012

Ridden an SP2.

Great machine. The thing about it was that it ran like a slug uner 60K's. It seem to ride and handle better the faster it went, without scaring the shit out of ya. You had to keep an eye on the speedo because they seem to cruze smoothly at a heigher speed.

Absalutly love em, but could also have a TL1000R, Just because its a Suzuki.

You could also probably get three of them for the price of a good SP2.

There is a tidy looking SP2 at Jeffreys Honda @ Ferntree Gully (Vic) for sale, unfortunately i didnt see the price.
