Jake and Astro, Great Dane puppies need a bit of help - Heidi1 - 27-10-2011 Hey all I never do this, but two of my favourite things in the world are Great Dane pups. This group is PAWS, a rescue group in Sydney. They are small and not for profit and they do the best they can with the resources they have. They rely almost entirely on donations to save dogs from the pound. I got my last lunatic family member from them after they saved her from a puppy factory where she was forced to have litter after litter of pups. I rate them highly, they are good people. This is Jake and Astro. As puppies they were dumped at Wyong Pound, they are now 6 months of age. Jake and Astro came into care in early August, they have been under the care of Brian a very kind Vet from Belmont Veterinary Clinic. Brian and the team at Belmont Clinic have been fantastic working with the pups and trying to keep the costs down where possible. Up until now the pups have needed to go back for cast changes, antibiotics and general check ups, the costs so far have been $2000. The pups may look normal with their casts on but they are suffering with a condition known as "knuckling over". This is a deformity in their legs where the joints and bones grow at different rates and in turn this leaves them crippled. It is not uncommon in large breeds and if caught early can be corrected, due to the severity of Jake and Astro's condition they will both require surgery so that they can lead a normal life, without this they have an uncertain future. Due to the complexity of the surgery they now need to be seen by a specialist surgeon, we are currently seeking donations as Jake needs to have his surgery immediately. Jake is desperate. The estimated cost of the surgery is $14,000. At the moment Astro is coping with having half casts and will need surgery further down the track. If you can help Jake and Astro to have their much needed surgery please help by donating to their cause. All donations are tax deductible. To see photos of these little darlings and to donate, go to http://www.paws.com.au/ It is a completely mad website, so I'll have to talk you through it Click on 'adopt a pound pet' on the left and then look for 'Denise' up on the right. Scroll most of the way down (feel free to look for your next best mate while you do so) until you get to Jake and Astro. If you decide to donate, put Jake and Astro's name in the receipt to make sure the money goes to them. There is an argument that this is too much money for a surgery on a dog, but look at their faces and say that. Small donations gratefully received. HUGE ones get a lick. |
