what type of resistor is required for LED indicators? - aussiemonster - 03-07-2011

Bought some LED indicators off Ebay and a set of resistors to make them flash the right speed. Indicators work, resistors didn't.

I'm guessing the resistor was too strong as when I added it the indicator didn't flash at all, removed it flashed too quickly (as expected).

So...

Anyone know what size resistor is required to make LED indicators flash at something close to the right speed?

Cheers

Dale

Soz Dale, I can't help ya with that info.....Undecided

....but having some LED's ready to go onto my busa, I'm curious to know the answer as well!!! Confused

Don't use resistors, I know it is a bit more expensive but the more elegant solution is to use a plug in electronic flasher I got mine from here

i have been looking for LED indicators also, are you happy with the purchase you got?

if so can you tell me who you bought through? cheers.

I got mine from here, very happy with them

Ok.
I bought LED'S for my 4x4 to put on the rear and they did flash very quickly as well. So I bought two resistors and what you do is add one end to the live wire to you LED and the other end to earth and that slows down.
John
1 resistor for each LED. Putting the resistors in line will not slow them down. so you do what I said before.

I think he needs to know what resistance value the resistors are.

I'll check what mine are and let it be know.

Ok.
What is on my resistors is 12V & same resistance as 21watt bulb. Funny!!
I feel sure the resistors he has by earthing out one end will work ok.

You are right piperjon you do need a resistor that will consume 21 watts of power (on all four corners if replacing all Flashers to LED's) you can in effect use the original 21 watt bulb mounted in the hump or somewhere.
That is why I am recommending paying the extra to buy an electronic Flasher unit to drop down the power usage of the indicators, why mount a resistor that acts like a mini Bar heater converting electrical energy to heat when you are mounting LED's that have the main benifit of using minimal power.

It is just a drop in unit, no modifications at all
It will even work with normal 21watt globes Back and Front or using=42Watts
Globes Front, LED's Rear or of course
using=21Watts
LED"s Front and Rear. =negligible Watts

I got similar ones, but not LED, a single bulb. The rubber of the indicator stalk has started to perish after a year or so of daily riding. So the new ones I've bought don't have rubber mounts. Will see how they go if I can get the resistors to work properly.Embarassed

I've bought these ones:
http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e11030.m43.l1123/7?euid=02cbfb9408e646669769a487c9270b3e&loc=http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem%26item%3D260807420798%26ssPageName%3DADME:B:EF:MOTORS:1123

Will see how they go if I can sort our the resistors.
These are the resistors I bought. Any suggestions on how to connect the wires? Sounds like I may not have had it wired up correctly.
