mobile 1 oil - davecrowley - 04-04-2011 A tricky issue this one,I thought you had to run the motor in for at least 10000k before useing full sythentic but my K8 has been on mobile 1 for some time and it has done 8000k when I brought it last week. Also is mobile 1 ok for the clutch being a car oil because I noticed somebody on the forum uses it.On the K7 I used motul 5100 up to 18000k and about to change to full synthetic but had the wallaby incident.Dont mind useing the mobile 1 because its a good oil, just not sure. Im a bit confused as to why you are using car oil when there is this alternative,I have 40 liters of the stuff and if you where in Qld I would have sold you some at the price I got it for($40 for 4 ltrs) but being interstate it would not be viable for me to send it to you either. RE: mobile 1 oil - davecrowley - 04-04-2011 oops I made a blue, the other owner said he was useing mobil 1 when I brought the k8 last week and I did not know they made mobil 1 for bikes, this is maybe what he meant, silly me. RE: mobile 1 oil - tomrux - 05-04-2011 I have been using Shell Helix Blue ( semi-synth) for close on twenty years. Used it on a tuned up 83 GSX1100 getting 140 horse. right through to 2 busa's. changed at recomended intervals. Gixxer has got 300 thou on it. no problems whatsoever. circa $40 for 5 litres. why throw money away. remeber a test done in the states years ago. all the so called motorcycle special oils and ordinary car Mobil 1. at the end of the test Mobile 1 had lost the least amount. meets the requirements = more than good enough Tom RE: mobile 1 oil - Volvi - 05-04-2011 its the 'ester' in Motul (5100) that keeps me with them. RE: mobile 1 oil - Maj - 05-04-2011 I always use the full synthetic, extra temp and pressures of the turbo need the best protection available Shell ultra looks fine to me and a mate has been using (abusing) it on his turbo dragbike without probs for several yrs now and i build his motors, so i get to see firsthand Currently have 10-40 but thats all the local dealer had in stock, would prefer 15-50 and they are going to carry it now . RE: mobile 1 oil - Busdriver - 05-04-2011 I've been reading on some other motorcycle forums where people have been using "non-energy conserving" heavy duty diesel oils. Apparently, some of these oils are designed for mixed fleets of petrol and diesel engines. Apparently, said "non-energy conserving" oils don't have the friction modifiers that can cause clutch slippage. Apparently again, zinc can eventually coat said catalytic converters and stop them working correctly, hence the reduction in zinc in oils. Apparently also, they have higher phosphate and zinc levels as these vehicles don't have catalytic converters. Just throwing it out there RE: mobile 1 oil - simmo - 05-04-2011 (04-04-2011, 08:59pm)davecrowley Wrote: Whats happening to mobil guys? 7 Eleven has taken over all the Mobil & Quix stores about 6 months ago RE: mobile 1 oil - CeeJay07 - 05-04-2011 In the voice of Apu from the Simpsons "thank you very much, come again" |
