Good-bye to the $50 car.... - Heidi1 - 28-02-2011

You all know how much I have loved the $50 car. We've spent hours on the highway between Canberra and Forster. Just me and the car, nothing but the sound of the engine to break the silence. Some people said get a radio, but I said NO! RUIN THIS DASH?? When the paramedics had to get Bruce out of the front seat and they threatened to cut the roof off, I told them it was a pity the crash was fatal, but there was no way they were touching the $50 car!

On those really hot days leaving sunny Western Sydney, I'd wind all the windows down for the hot refreshing breeze to waft through. Plays havoc with your hair, but it is a small price to pay for living in the moment.

SURE you can't see out the driver's window, SURE one of the windows no longer winds down, SURE one of the doors doesn't open (unless it is Pan in which case it opens every time, I still have no explanation for that), SURE the central locking goes on and off fairly randomly, SURE it is a bit squishy when I have Bruce in the pillion seat.... but it has a GREAT gearbox and it has served me well.

If only it could pull a trailer. With one bike, we have a top speed of 100km/hr downhill, as low as 55kms/hr uphill. Two bikes, I'm screwed. Even the grey nomads look at me with pity as they roar past at 80kms/hr, damnable hoons. If it could pull a trailer, I would never let it go.

Here are some memories.......

There will be some knee down action in the Vitara.

Someone put WAAAYYYY too much money in my account today, but it was the Commonwealth Bank and they were having a stuff up, so it might have been them.

Now it is no longer mine, I'm going to see if it can do a burnout. You can do a burnout with a front wheel drive can't you?

Better get REALLY drunk first. Some things just don't work sober.

RE: Good-bye to the $50 car.... - Heidi1 - 04-03-2011

Hang on, we have a problem. I've just spent the day cleaning the $50 car, and now I'm not sure I can let it go! I've armouralled all the inside and now it is nice and SLIPPERY! It is now rather hard to get the door buttons up because they are so slippery, and the gearstick is all but impossible to grab. So shiny you almost can't see the cracks on the dash. I was going to put it through the car wash, but a lady was standing there staring forlornly at her car parked sideways inside the carwash while the young attendant begged the NRMA to hurry. Even she wasn't sure how that happened. Would have loved a photo, but it seemed unkind.

Didn't someone ask if I could get my knee down in the new car?
