Odd Sprocket sizes ??? - bonnetboy - 05-10-2010 I have had my 2000 Busa for about a month now & have just stripped some parts down for cleaning & some small mods & decided to check the sprockets. Theyre basically new but the sizes are odd. From what ive read the 2000 models are supposed to have 17 on front & 40 on rear yet mine has 14 on front & 38 on rear. I read of others going slightly different sizes but mine just seem odd & the front seems a big jump in size. Im thinking about goin back to standard sizes, What difference would the 14/38 be compared to standard sizes (appart from my speedo being way out which ive already noiticed). Cheers. RE: Odd Sprocket sizes ??? - Maj - 05-10-2010 Thats realy odd sizing, small sprockets wear chains quicker and your bike will be revving fairly hi at cruise but if you put it to std now with the diameter differences your going to be up for a chain too , 16 /38 may fit with your current chain and put your gearing close to normal , and 17/38 may even get close to your speedo being accurate ... But i can tell you my speedo is out a fair bit. Well i wont be able to afford new sprockets & chain for a while now so will have to make do with the way it is. Any idea why the previous owner would want to change to thses sizes? RE: Odd Sprocket sizes ??? - simmo - 05-10-2010 May have been at the drags for a run or two, Would be nice & toee down low who did you buy it of PM me if you like RE: Odd Sprocket sizes ??? - bonnetboy - 05-10-2010 (05-10-2010, 03:50pm)simmo Wrote: May have been at the drags for a run or two, Not sure who the original owner was as i purchased it through bike shop in Sydney where it was traded in. But I can slightly see where a name sticker was that looks like it says "weeze" RE: Odd Sprocket sizes ??? - simmo - 05-10-2010 Dont know it, is the a different Kanji sticker on it ( Bright Blue or just the pic) Come on Boys fess up whos was it RE: Odd Sprocket sizes ??? - bonnetboy - 05-10-2010 (05-10-2010, 04:59pm)simmo Wrote: Dont know it, is the a different Kanji sticker on it ( Bright Blue or just the pic) The sticker does seem an aftermarket or custom one. Its chrome outline with reflective darker blue on inside. So it reflects like a numberplate when flash on camera shines, so thats why it appears bright. I get an average of 200kms to a tank. So if i reverted it back to stock gearing then the fuel consumption should be better then.... hopefully. RE: Odd Sprocket sizes ??? - Volvi - 06-10-2010 tank shud give you at least 300 - 318 (reserve light comes on at around 250), thats my average. best to get back to stock 17 - 40 but only when you can afford a new chain (recommend Gold DID VM about $130-150) with both new sprocs. otherwise just use them till you can change but dont go to 38. I currently have 17 - 42 for a bit extra grunt at start but will be going back to 40 at next change. My fuel light comes on at 200kms with average riding which is shocking since im used to my VFR800 where I could get 350-450 from a tank. |
