Help! Accidently used E10 fuel - bonnetboy - 09-09-2010

Out on big ride yesterday & pulled into servo with fuel light on. Filled up & didnt realise till I finished i had grabbed the wrong fuel filler, I grabbed the E10 instead of the premium that was right next to it.
I didnt think it would matter too much so i left & about 15kms later the bike started losing power & sounded like it was running on 2-3 cylinders. Pulled into next town (25km from last servo) & syphoned fuel out till fuel light was back on & refilled with premium. after a couple of kms the bike started to regain power but still ran like crap & ran like that the rest of the way home (approx 110kms).
Started it again this morning & still doin the same.
Did the E10 cause problems or is it something else & the fuel was just a coincidence? PLEASE HELP!!!

E10 is not your major problems, it seems that fuel from that servo was bad - I had a similar problem with my busa (gen1) in Sydney about 2 yrs back.
turns out fuel was bad and I had to change all the sparkies and clean the tank.....:)

E10 drops water out of it, you may have a bit of still water going though the fuel system, may be check your filters if you can

Was happy with her till this problem.
Well today I took tank & airbox off & took plugs out & bought new ones, & set gaps. Pulled fuel pump unit out & apart & took fuel filter out & cleaned it best i could (bike shop said would be week to get one in & i couldnt wait). Drained tank completely (found some dirty water in with fuel). Cleaned petcock filter.
Put everything back together. Still have lack of power, like it only on 3 cylinders, but now is right through rev range instead of just at lower revs.
Going to try some Techron 5000 injecter cleaner in it tomorrow to see if helps.
Would take it to bike shop but they have misdiagnosed problems on other bikes before plus they take weeks to do anything & I cant go that long without it.

P.S. Will running it like this harm it more?

RE: Help! Accidently used E10 fuel - Bill Gaheer - 09-09-2010

Don't run it mate, get it fixed first

RE: Help! Accidently used E10 fuel - Bill Gaheer - 09-09-2010

Btw are you from Sydney?

RE: Help! Accidently used E10 fuel - fasterfaster - 10-09-2010

E10 shouldn't have created any problem apart from maybe cleaning the fuel system out a little. E85 on the other hand can damage fuel lines and rubber components in the fuel system / pump etc due to it's high alcohol content. It sounds like you have some other prob ? You say it feels like it's on 3 cylinders ? Is it firing all four or not ?

RE: Help! Accidently used E10 fuel - bonnetboy - 10-09-2010

No im not from Sydney, im almost halfway between Sydney & Melbourne.
Will spend today going through checking each plug & coil & maybe even swapping injectors around if i can work out how.

RE: Help! Accidently used E10 fuel - Bill Gaheer - 10-09-2010

Ops, couldnt recommend anyone there, I knew Pete could help you if you were around Sydney.

RE: Help! Accidently used E10 fuel - bonnetboy - 21-09-2010

Ok all fixed. I completely drained tank, removed external fuel pump & opened & replaced fuel filter, replaced spark plugs & done everything i could think of but I didnt touch the injectors as I had no idea how to clean them.
Put everything back together & still ran like crap so off it went to the local bike shop. they double checked everything i did & said all was fine but then they cleaned the injectors & said that 2 were completely blocked.
So now its all back together & going great (touch wood).
Thanks for all the help guys.
