cam chain tensioner - Busa - 26-10-2006 Unfortunatley today it seems like my cam chain tensioner let go and after contacting suzuki it seems that my by (99) model has only had the origanal recall done missed out on the second recall as I am the second owner and bike shop never passed on my details. so i have to wait for the dealer to pull down the bike and do a report to suzuki australia who will then let me know if they are going to help out so I just want to know did the second fix the company did fix the problem with the tensioner or is it better to go with the manual tensioner. regards Busa Re: cam chain tensioner - Volvi - 26-10-2006 thats bad news. maybe if you bought off a dealer they shuda checked all recalls were done. or maybe suzuki with theyre VIN number list shuda looked for the new owner to inform to immediately get the last CCT recall done. there were 2 recalls on it if I remember correctly. so far havent heard any problems on them since last recall. have heard a few who prefer manual as that way they know when adjusted but then if one forgets to that cud lead to trouble to. wud need an engine rebuild and I think that suzuki ought to take responsibility which I hope they do. theyve been good so far as I can tell with the CCT and subframe, after all they do aknowledge its a manuf. fault. Anyway good luck with it all. if your having any problems check with John Philips at Suzuki Melbourne, hes always been helpfull. Edited by: Volvi at: 26/10/06 18:36 Re: cam chain tensioner - BUSGO - 26-10-2006 Sorry to hear that mate. There has been tons of discussion about this over the years and a couple of guys got caught earlier this year also. If you read down through the threads you will find all the talk. The hydraulic tensioner is a great fix and no more problems that I am aware of. It is the damage that could have occurred that is the main concern. Some guys still like a manual tensioner but. Rgds BUSGO "TAKE MY ADVICE" I'm not using it anyway! cam chain... - pan - 26-10-2006 Been there, done that. Call me if you like.... 0414 250975 cam chain tensioner - Busa - 26-10-2006 Thanks guys for the feedback I will now just have to wait and see what happens once they strip the motor down which unfortunatley wont be for another week as the local dealer is snowed under with work. Just to let you know when i bought the bike it was from a suzuki dealer (sunstate qld) and they told me it had been done but they never let me know about the second one or passed on my details to suzuki, I must admit the guy Brendon Gunton at suzuki australia was quite good about it and has said he will see what he can do about it once he gets a report on the motor so I will let you know how I get on. regards Busa Re: cam chain tensioner - pan - 26-10-2006 Quote:the guy Brendon Gunton at suzuki australia was quite good about it Oh man, you gotta call me...!!! He was good to me initially too... then... ... called me abusive names, etc, etc... "sometimes crime does pay" Re: cam chain tensioner - Busa - 21-11-2006 Just found out the cam chain did no come off but the tensioner failed and as a result the bike has bent some valves so just waiting to see what suzuki say, will let you know the end result. regards Busa Re: cam chain tensioner - pan - 21-11-2006 Isn't that the same thing? The chain doesn't have to come off completely, from what I understand.... just skipping should be enough to do damage. Bent valves means cracked valve guides, and most likely damaged piston heads where the valves actually whacked the pistons. Keep in mind that I am the least techinically-minded person in the world. I just know this because I've been through it... Notice the third set of valves from the left.... one extremely bent valve. Ask the repairer to look at the pistons too. I'm sure you'll see valve imprints on some of them. In this one, see how the top left valve isn't sitting flush? That's bent too! "sometimes crime does pay" Re: cam chain tensioner - Blackzook - 22-11-2006 Busa - Pan is right. Ask Suzuki for a written report stating EXACTLY what has been damaged and what has no evidence (valves/pistons) of damage. You are within your rights to ask for this and to ask for an independent (your cost) evaluation of the damage. This will keep them honest. Play the game with them they are playing it with you. Be polite - be firm - stand by your rights and most importantly document everything. If someone from Suzuki says something to you send them a letter confirming the discussion. You'll be glad you did. Bruce N2O no laughing matter Re: cam chain tensioner - RaZ80 - 23-11-2006 yep - what all these guys said above - I got a manual one put in as I had heard a few went & to listen for it around the 43,000 mark - as soon as I hit that mark I could hear it ;) "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300" Re: cam chain tensioner - Volvi - 24-11-2006 question is how secure are we those who did all the updates and have theyre latest hydraulic one installed. anyone heard of them failing? how secure are we? Re: cam chain tensioner - rev 01 - 24-11-2006 Well Volvi.........I felt so secure that I went & bought a BMW Never heard of the oil pressure type failing...................................yet Ah well...ya get what ya pay for You blokes are still the fastest mofo's known to science though, that's what counts Re: cam chain tensioner - RaZ80 - 27-11-2006 Volvi - The way balls explained it to me - pretty much said that it was better to have manual one anyway & adjust it when serviced. reason he said was due to the fact he had to change it on new gixxer 1k's as well because of the same problems & auto ones have been known to fail anyway. Better safe then sorry & thats why I did mine. being a 2001 I dont have warranty anymore if my bikes heart blew - I 'd be shattered "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300" Re: cam chain tensioner - Volvi - 27-11-2006 humm Raz now i really dunno. Re: cam chain tensioner - Maj750t - 27-11-2006 Manual ones are only as good as the guy adjusting it, Get it serviced at a dealer that hasn't seen one before and anything may happen. Proper procedure as per the instructions calls for removing the cam cover and setting to X free play, don't know of many done this way!! Hydraulic ones are mostly fool proof and since 01 reasonably reliable |
