I think would look pretty crappy. Why not just put a different plug on the end of the GPS cable & use a nice little AV plug & socket or similar. http://www.cliff.com.au/products/jacksockets/35jacksockets.htm http://www.cliff.com.au/products/jackplugs/35jackplugs.htm You could put it almost anywhere & would be neat & inconspicuous. RE: cigarette lighter for gps etc... - big kev - 16-06-2010 thats an intweresting idea with the plugs mate RE: cigarette lighter for gps etc... - Louwai - 16-06-2010 (16-06-2010, 12:30pm)big kev Wrote: thats an intweresting idea with the plugs mate Works well Kev. I use AV Plugs & XLR plugs for all my 12v power needs. Here's a pic of the top face of my telescope. In the cnr on the black you can see a small red & a small black thing.... These are the positive & negative power plugs to send power to the top end of the scope. (can have both + & - in one single plug no problem) These 2 plugs power the top heater unit which runs 5 x heater straps + a fixed laser pointer + a "Telrad" finder scope. Supplying power to a GPS unit would be no problem at all, & MUCH neater that flamin huge cig sockets. I use 2.5mm speaker wire for power cabling. Being a telescope, it's used at night which gets cold. Normal plastic coated cable gets very stiff & the insulation coating cracks. The Speaker cable has Silicon Rubber coating & is very cold resistant. It stays fully flexible at below 0 temps. RE: cigarette lighter for gps etc... - daaef - 16-06-2010 Good call with the audio sockets.. I just ran my battery tender cable up to under the front infill panel and is velcroed under there until needed. Jaycar have a double-ended mating cable which I cut in half and joined to a cig socket. Total spend <$10. The cig socket adaptor or batt tender or any other 12V adaptor can just plug in when you need it and sit in the tank bag or under the boot. That way I can use any car adaptors for GPS, Iphone, whatever.
