Some general questions - Dan85 - 04-05-2010

Ok guys. A few questions. I have a 99 frame with 08 front end ie clamp forks etc.

1) is the steering stem top nut different between a gen1 and gen2?
2) how do I get the lower dust seal/bearing of the steering stem off and then how do I get the new bearing and dust seal back on?
3) for mountng the rear suspension knuckle to the frame can I got to a specialty fasterns type shop and get a suitabl bolt or do I need to use a Suzuki item?
4) does someone wanna come build the thing for me while I watch and drink.

Thanks guys.

Dan. I've run some senario's around your questions, and judging by the lack of response, there are no answers to the plethora of questions nor any understanding of what the hell you are trying to achieve!! Try to slow down.

RE: Some general questions - Dan85 - 05-05-2010

Ok katana2 I am trying to put the gen2 tripple clamps and forks onto a 99 frame. I have been given a steering stem top nut which appears to not fit so is either for something other than a busa or I've got a gen1 steering stem top nut and they are smaller than the gen2 units Which is why I want to know if the gen1 and gen2 use the same steering stem top nut.

Secondly the steering stem I have appears to have the remanents of the lower steering stem bearing inner race and dust seal firmly attached and I need to remove it from the steering stem so that I can install the new one. And short of taking a grinder to it I don't know how to get it off.

Thirdly I am lacking the bolt which attaches the rear suspension knuckle to the frame, wreckers seem to not know what the correct bolt is and the stealershop wants rediculous money for all I see is just a bolt so I'm curious as to whether I'm able to purchase a bolt that fits from elsewere or if I need to use a genuine item.

And fourthly well it's always more fun playing with bikes with a drink in hand and a friend there to open the beers hahaha feel free to come over and have me explain my questions in person however don't expect to get away without having a few beers with me and telling a yarn or two

Take details of the bolt suzuki wants to screw you with and cross reference it with one from a company named Coventry Fastners or The Bolt place(07-3855-5200).

RE: Some general questions - Maj - 06-05-2010

Dan whats your address, i'll just send you some, Just the long bolts or need the short too ?
headstem bearing sits on the seat that is mounted on the lower tripple, what you have there is probably all you need , i can include a bearing in the box, pics would help to be sure.

RE: Some general questions - Dan85 - 06-05-2010

Maj thanks for the offer. however i went and took the knuckle into speciality fasterns here in canberra and they sized it up and gave me a suitable bolt for it. again thanks alot. also i have the bearings i went and bought the pair of head stem bearings the other day. here is a pic of whats on the steering stem. sorry for the crap quality of photo

Cheers.

Just name your price...

RE: Some general questions - Dan85 - 07-05-2010

Max, once I get the bearings Onto the steering stem it's on easy peasey from the look of it. For you lid imagine it's as easy as getting forks, wheels, brakes and slide the forks into your existing tripples.

RE: Some general questions - BLACKZOOK - 07-05-2010

Hey mate

Re question four, I'm prepared to slip into my swimming cossies and drop round to help. What do you reckon? You'd have to supply the drinks though.
