My humps! - Djpete - 07-05-2006

Ok I forgot to connect the release cable for the hump last time I was doing an led mod!
Any clues as to how I get the bloody thing off to reconnect the cable?
(And stop laughing!!!) Cheers,
Pete

Re: My humps! - CAS3234 - 07-05-2006

Last time I did it I used a screw driver and levered the hump up enough to get my fingers under it.

Then I swore really loud cause it was squashing my fingers.

Then I got the shits and just ripped the fucker off, I had to re tap a couple of holes to 8mm afterwards too.

But I have NEVER done it again.

Leonard drilled a small 3-4mm hole on the lip of the tail section (under the hump) on the right hand side and used a welding electrode to push the lever across.

Pete. Just lever it up slightly on the left side, with a rag over screw driver or flat bar is better (gently does it) Have a look with torch and slip a piece of hooked wire in and pull the catch ..............it's on the rear side of the latch assembly and pulls from right to left.
Easy to do Pete and have found that now the first thing I do when I put the cover back on the bike is to hook the cable up as it's indeed so easy to forget

Re: Cabled ! - Djpete - 07-05-2006

Thanks guys, Pan a few ideas there but all involve removing thw whole tail section again.
I'll try Pete's version first and see how I go.
Thanks again ...stay tuned for the end result.
If I have to respray anything again I WILL go mad!
Cheers,
Pete

Re: Cabled ! - Xhiler8r - 07-05-2006

remove the back wheel and get yaself a 1 inch hole saw roughly work out where the lock is by looking at the pillion seat and then drill a hole through your rear guard then same as pete says get a torch and find the lock and a nice little flat blade screwdriver will do the job once done go to hardware and find a 1 inch rubber gromet and plug the hole that way if you ever do it again it is an easy solution as for levering the hump and sliding metal between paint I would do that only as a last resort Cheers Bill

Thanks Bill good one but don't like the hole...
Maybe if I get desperate.
Anyway I wouldn't know how to remove the wheel... Cheers,
