Chroming frame - SWOOP - 30-03-2010

Sup all, just wanted to know if anyone has chromed their Busa frame.... Im looking at getting it done but after hearing its good enough to get you a defect sticker, it's kinda turned me off of the idea. Apparently the process weakens the structure of the frame so if anyone has heard of this, you're feedback would be greatly appreciated. Cheers guys!

Don't know anybody that's done it. Know a few that have had the plastic [really expensive] covers that give it the chrome finish and that looked pretty good (as long as you didn't look tooooo close).
...or just polish it and kep it very clean... looks just like chrome if done right

I doubt that you will find anyone who will chrome the frame properly for you here in Australia, or even have a tank big enough for that matter. As far as weakening the frame is concerned I'm calling bullshit.

Don't know if this would work but the company Jet-Hot can do a high lusture ceramic coating
on larger objects. It's meant for headers and engine parts but I see no reason why it couldn't be done on a frame (other than $$$). Maybe give them a call. Can't hurt to ask.

it actually does weaken it bruce from the chroming process and can cause stress cracks especially in the cast area of the frame you would be surprised what damage plating can do to structure of some base materials
and more than a defect one of my mates actually had his classed as a wright off and tags removed never to be registered again

Thanks all. Pan i already have the chromed covers on it but if im gonna put it into shows i think it just gives off that "cheap look". You can get away with it with normal ppl but with bike fanatics they pick up on it like they did when i went into a show. So to save myself the embarrassment, i'll either polish or paint it.

There's no way in hell I'll ever chrome anything on my bike; I hate polishing/cleaning shiny stuff.

If you must have chrome, buy a Hardley.
