Clutch Shutter - 463046 - 24-03-2010 Hi all. I have a stock 99 busa i use for drag racing and have been getting clutch shutter. Its good for about 3 or 4 passes but when the bike is hot is when the problem is at its worst. I have had the BTL welded and i am using heavy duty springs. Apart from that everything is stock. Any suggestions? Do i need a brocks cushion kit? RE: Clutch Shutter - Legend - 25-03-2010 Check the condition of the basket and hub, might also do with a set of plates and fibres. Leonard. There is no wear in the plates. Are the later model clutches better and do they fit straight on without mods? RE: Clutch Shutter - Bill Gaheer - 25-03-2010 Yes they fit straight one plate is thicker the the rest.... I'll put some pics up in a few days when I get time of 4 different sets I'm running a barnett at the moment but I have a Energy one ready to go & it looks the best & they are cheap also they come with steels also & run a extra couple of plates also RE: Clutch Shutter - Legend - 25-03-2010 (25-03-2010, 05:41pm)463046 Wrote:(25-03-2010, 10:52am)simmo Wrote:(24-03-2010, 10:03pm)463046 Wrote: Hi all. So there's no wear on the hub or basket? and the fiber all measure within spec ? and the springs are with in spec? Best clutch plates to use are the standard suzuki. and there's 2 thicker fibers in a standard pack. How many k's are on the bike? Leonard. RE: Clutch Shutter - 463046 - 25-03-2010 It only has 16000 kms only 500 or so are from racing. Plates are like new and i am using barnett heavy duty springs and a welded btl. A friend of mine is running the same bike with 90000 kms and a stock clutch and never has any dramas. Mine seemed to get worse when i fitted the welded btl and springs ![]() RE: Clutch Shutter - Legend - 26-03-2010 What brand of plates do you have? Is the clutch lever a lot harder than stock to pull in? Have you got a picture of the btl? Leonard. No photos of the btl but i made sure it was perfectly centred when it was welded. Dont understand why it goes good when cold ![]() RE: Clutch Shutter - Legend - 26-03-2010 Without seeing the btl I'll assume its ok.... Are the barnett springs longer than stock? Do the Barnett springs feel stronger than stock(by squeezing them)? If you have access to a spring gauge this would help but the finger test will give enough info for now. Leonard. RE: Clutch Shutter - Countbusa - 27-03-2010 Have you checked if the clutch plates (steels and fibres) are not warped? This can be done by placing one plate at a time on a flat surface (eg. a sheet of glass) and see if the plate rocks or wabbles. Also, what type of engine oil are you using? Some engine oils (for motor cars) are not compatible with motorcycle clutches! Will pull clutch apart again and double check everything. Was told to fit some components from a later model busa ( 2001 to 2006 ). Jutter spring and washer assembly( thinks thats right ![]() RE: Clutch Shutter - Bill Gaheer - 28-03-2010 God bless, once the shutter starts - its a pain in the ass - single reason for me selling my 00 busa. Not happy with Clutch even after changings plates and springs, I also wanted a Gen2 |
