admin board question - mia06 - 20-03-2010 can anyone give me a rough idea of the active board members we currently have I guess the term active is open to discretion I have an idea but before i make a complete idiot of myself or flamed to the shit house i need to do some maths.. i had an idea which may help boost the club participation for future runs/ get together's,providing admin is interested and the numbers stack up I notice we have 42 pages of members with about 40 per page i am guessing 10 per page would be classed as active ??? Whenever I get some spare time I go through and clear out members that either have no posts (and are more than three months old), or people with very low post counts who haven't been active in more than six months. It is a very inexact science. We also had a bit of trouble just before Christmas where we had a lot of international sign-ups that were spammers. I think we got rid of the worst of those. Just look for the regular names and you get to know who is active. RE: admin board question - BikerBoy - 20-03-2010 Make a thread asking all members to reply 'once' with a post saying they are an active member. In a few weeks or a month you will have a decent list of the 'current' regular AHC members. You'll also be able to see their join date and post count to weed out any misleaders. Could do a poll re ,how often do you visit the AHC Forum, Daily/weekly/monthly. RE: admin board question - mia06 - 21-03-2010 all great ideas to work out active members i have an idea and for it to work we as a board would have to remain transparent to stop suggestive profiting as had happen in the past I have been only a board member for close on 2 yrs now was also known as surfabusa until i had a few months away from here, i forgot all my login details so i just rejoined as mia06...anyway here is the basis of the idea I notice the board has had problems trying to get good numbers to group rides/ extended weekends etc I personally have not been on one purely because of costs, being self employed, the time i factor in the loss of trade plus usually at least a couple of days either side for commuting and then the added costs of accommodation and meals fuel etc for 2 of us it gets to be a rather expensive trip Problem solving lets say we had 400 active members (hopefully) would the admin consider this Ask each member to purchase a 100 dollar yearly membership/ ticket which then would place every ticket holder in the draw for a new hayabusa we probably could approach one of the dealers for a good discount lets say we picked the bike up for 17,000 that would leave the club with 23000 in profit for the year we could nominate a club secretary/bursar which would act after board approval to administer club money for club approved rides and get togethers this could cover the accommodation, meals and fuel costs on club outings I feel this would encourage a lot more participation not to mention i am sure all of us would like the chance to win the bike we admire so much obviously admin would have to get raffle license but i dont think it would be to hard to arrange in summary many years ago we stated a fishing club in my local town doing similar sorts of things within 12 months the club was paying for easter and christmas holiday caravan tent sites for club families , the club paid for for all kids activities during the day whilst the men were out fishing, the fish caught would all be cooked up along with all the other bulk club purchased food and each night there would be a huge bbq (some of my best teenage memories, caravan park cricket games,my first romance, etc ) within a couple of years the club had purchased a couple of boats and just kept on growing sadly my dad was president and told the other members not to go out to sea as the bar crossing and ocean was to rough (my father had been out in his own boat in the early hours of the morning and came back to tell the others to have a family/lay day. 2 boats decided to go anyway one having a new member on board who had 2 kids and never been fishing in the ocean before, well the first boat barely made the crossing and the second boat didnt with two drowned including the newest club member My dad being hot headed told the club to get f****d packed up and went home, he stopped in and seen the guys kids and wife who were at home waiting for there dad to come home my dad never went back to the club since i think it still exists but nowhere the size or strengh it was in its glory days i thought this concept except for the disaster story maybe good for the club should i make this a poll to get a better idea RE: admin board question - big kev - 21-03-2010 HMMM well i think its a good idea in theory . BUT its going down the lines of a registered club. if we become a registered club theres alot of shit to deal with . i like the idea of winning a new busa . $100 is a good investment make the thread up and see how it goes best of luck RE: admin board question - BikerBoy - 21-03-2010 (21-03-2010, 09:06am)big kev Wrote: HMMM well i think its a good idea in theory . How will that affect the AHC if registered? In theory I think it's a great idea and a chance to open up more AHC sponsored things like track days, drag days, club meets, club merchandise, raffles and competitions etc.. However, I do think it will change the AHC in a big way and many may not like the idea. I do think it is an avenue worth exploring though regardless of the outcome. RE: admin board question - BUSGO - 21-03-2010 It sounds like a great idea for a formal club. This club however, is simply a forum with participation, no committee, no membership fees and no legal hassles. I suggest it should be kept that way. It has worked very well for 10 years and I think it will continue to do so. Many of the overnighter and organised rides have had 100% fill rates and overflows. No problems except that some people can't go when they want to and that will always be the case. RE: admin board question - Volvi - 21-03-2010 Registering a club is no small excercise. A lot of legalities involved, committees and minutes of meetings etc. If we head down that road the club will eventually implode with internal politicking, agendas and interests etc. I have experience on that with another club that I was a founding member of, its all but dead due to inflated egos and politicks and power play. If we want this 'club' / board to survive it can only as currently, same as most other bulletin boards. Our membership isnt that large, inspite of the number registered. Fully active Id say roughly 60-80 with lotsa lurkers or one time posters who just check in to update on any news, which could be as many as 100-150. You will always find it very difficult to get regular rides going. Its hard enough getting numbers for attendance once a year for annual meet, let alone monthly rides etc. Were not like Netrider or Weekend riders, theyre all bikes P plates and scooters too. Were basically a 1 bike (model) club. Which doesnt really function as a "club". Rather an online place to chat and use to perhaps meet up, exchange info, buy and sell. It cant amount to much more then that especially after over 10 years running. $100 raffle tickets? good luck, if you manage to sell more then 20-30 youd be doing well. I recently put up the sticker pack for just $10 and got maybe 20 packs sold. So dont hold your breath for anything big. Sorry to put a damper on any worthwhile suggestions, just that I see things through a 10 yr history glasses and have a general good idea what can and cannot be accomplished. Nevertheless inspite of what I have said if you feel you have some valued, realistic ideas that can benefit the club in general dont hesitate to make them known. PS. Late last year after serving this club for 10 yrs, I thought Id like to hang my hat up and pass ownership over to another. However in order to do that I have to be sure of the persons reliability etc. I did offer it to another but it fell through due to committments arisen on the other person. And should you be wondering, no I asked for no monies just reliability of that person. If one day I should find the right responsible person to hand it over to, I will after much consideration. My only goal is to ensure the longevity of this site and club for the benefit of others and believe it or not, not for myself. RE: admin board question - Legend - 21-03-2010 Would or could there be liability issues etc, Persons getting hurt on a ride day might take legal action agaist the club? Insurance might have to be taken out? More to think about. Leonard. RE: admin board question - Volvi - 21-03-2010 The Hayabusa Club per say does not organise rides or any events, individuals or groups of individuals do and publicise them here. RE: admin board question - ROD - 22-03-2010 Its sad to say that numbers on this forum are no longer over the hundreds any more and i thought i would never say this but this forum is slowly sinking becoming more boring every year . The busa might live on but this forum i will say not ( i hope not ) but thats my opinion RE: admin board question - kawasuki - 22-03-2010 (22-03-2010, 09:24am)ROD Wrote: Its sad to say that numbers on this forum are no longer over the hundreds any more and i thought i would never say this but this forum is slowly sinking becoming more boring every year . |
