at what point is this revenue ?? its already in place and makes money . what there trying to do is slow down the death rate of young motorists in NSW which young people in cars fueled with alcohol is a killer already

dropping the blood alcahol level is just going to help save other people .

and minimum 5 yrs jail is nuts , the jails are full as it is mate (been there and know what its like) thats why the courts are the way they are mate been through the courts i know exactly what the GO is .

there has to be an alternate to stop young people and drink drivers killing them selves and others on our roads , but i dont know what the answer is . but throwing some 1 in jail for 5 yrs for being over the limit is nuts . maybe life time ban from driveing?? something needs to be done

RE: Government's Proposed 0.02 Blood Booze Reading - CeeJay07 - 15-03-2010

I agree Kev, jail is a ridiculous option...they have trouble housing the prisoners now without adding to the madness. Just ban them from driving for life seems like a good option, but then you'll have people ignoring the ban and driving anyway, then they'll just get sentenced to jail time.

RE: Government's Proposed 0.02 Blood Booze Reading - grumpy - 15-03-2010

the new zealand government is also bringing in new drink driving laws and for under either 21 or 25 it is going to be a zero tolerance for drinking and the rate is coming down from 0.08 to 0.05 for the rest but also like someone on this forum has said they wont want to be too hard because for every dollar they lose in booze tax is a dollar they will want to make up in other tax. its like our booze bus road blocks if they are really serious about stopping drink driving put them outside the pubs but if they do that its impossing on the drunks civil rights but its ok to impose on our civil rights just being in the wrong place at the wrong time and getting pulled over by a booze bus. thats my moan for the day better get up the hospital and get my hand xrays done. here's a fact i found out when i was sentenced to weekend detention for driveing whilst disqualified (yes no speeding drugs or alcahol were involved just drive with out a licence ) i had to wait 3 mths to start serving my jail time cause the cells were full of other offenders , now that just says to me the sending guys or girls up the river for drink driveing isnt going to work at all. i hope there are other alternats for this than jail. i did my time quick easy and no hassels . problem is that a % of people that drink drive have alcahol problems and going to weekend jail you have to pass a breath test most of the guys i saw have a drinking problem and they all failed there breath tests so they are remanded to full time jail which doesnt help them or there familys .

i really dont know what the answer is but jail is not one of them . the law is very blind in this case

RE: Government's Proposed 0.02 Blood Booze Reading - Bigdog - 15-03-2010

So I can't even have 1 beer or I'll be deemed to be a criminal. What a crock of shite.

RE: Government's Proposed 0.02 Blood Booze Reading - big kev - 15-03-2010

what aprt of it is shite?? the fact that drink driveing kills people? or the fact you can only have 1 or even 2 beers or maybe 3 light beers?

bitch n moan now and they could mandate it to 0.00 Achole level truckies have to comply with the 0.00 booze level as well .

I think the "revenue raising" comments are so misused it's not funny.
They have a law in place, you know what that law is, you break it and get cuaght, you pay the price. If you did not break that law, you would not have to hand over your money. How is that revenue raising?.

Revenue raising would be going through a breathaliser and having the cop say "There's a bit of a wait so can I get you a beer while your waiting to be tested". Any dirty liitle trick to "set you up" and catch you out is revenue raising.

If you don't break the laws it don't cost a dime. I'm not exactly a saint on the raod, have lost my licence twice and had numerous fines and each one I have always said "my own stupid fault". I broke the law and I paid the price. No bitchin' no whinging and no "oh those pricks are just revenue raising". Plain and simple "My Fault".

As for the .02 limits it was trialed two years ago O/S and was found that it did not work and infact made things worse as people were more prepared to exceed the limits regardless of the consequence. That info was analyzed and reviewed in Oz and put an end to it. (was in all the news last year in Vic). As far as I can remember the Cops even said it was not the right way to go about it. They wanted to keep the .05 with a tougher penalty system put in place.

If caught they should cancel your licence for a year and make you do a two week stint helping out in the road trauma section of a hospital or help out at the rehabilition centre. Let em see first hand exactly what alcohol related accidents cause.

The worst thing is the people they will catch and hurt the most from this .02 is the poor bugger thats had a drink once in a blue moon gets pulled over and goes over he looses his licence nine times out of ten his job for bugger all .when the constant drinker well he dont give a shit and will drive pissed any time because its his right to thats what they will tell you.
it dosent bother me much Im in a job 0000 drug and alcohol tested any time of the day . yes I agree a constant affender should be made to see the damage at the road trauma section and see the vehicles with blood and guts stains through them it might wake em up but some just dont care some kids just think its cool whilst others chuck their guts up .some of the accidents I see its only the alcohol thats saved them even tho it nine x out of ten caused it.A speed camera behind a tree is more of a revenue con.

Revenue, how many times have you blown over 0.05 ?
How many times do you think you'll blow over 0.02 ?
Dropping the blood alcohol limit is just going to increase the repeat offenders. Currently, 70% of convicted drink drivers re-offend within 5 years-FACT.
If I received a lifetime ban from driving I would just drive without a license, after all, what could they do?--put you in jail for 6 mths?
Young people, the DWD that wiped me out was 38 years of age.
Before a driving license is issued to anybody, the RTA or appropriate state authority should drill it in to their heads for 1/2 day class on what will happen if you drink & drive, even if it means a tour of the jail. No excuses.
Jails being filled---so what, with the money saved on payouts to victims & their passengers, they could build em all a real palace of a jail. You drink & drive, you are in fact committing attempted murder.
5 years jail, no suspended sentences and you watch, nobody will drink and drive.
No offence guys, I'm not trying to piss you all off, but I guarantee, if what happened to me happenned to you, you would have the same opinion, if you weren't dead. I used to have the same opinion as all of you, and yes, I used to drink and sometimes, I used to maybe be a little over the limit.
Anyway, once again, didn't mean to upset you all. Just couldn't let the mornings news go by without an opinion as it effects most of us. With any luck none of us. Now lets get back to the Busas.
Kev, this reply was not all directed at you, I'm just trying to prevent key pushing cramps.
Cheers Very Happy

RE: Government's Proposed 0.02 Blood Booze Reading - BikerBoy - 15-03-2010

I don't think you've upset anyone GruntMax. You are right, if we were in the same position as you we would most likely have the same opinions if not worse. I don't agree totaly with some of the comments you've made but you do make a very good point. Everyone's opinion counts in my book whether it be a far cry or right on the money.

I myself got done for drink driving (0.12 & 1st offence) a few years back and took it as one of the biggest wake up calls of my life. I did not care about losing my licence one bit but one thing stuck in my head above anything and that was "f***, I could have possibly killed someone". From that night on it was 22 months before I could even bring myself to touch a single drop of alcohol again, and it is exremely rare that I will actualy drink at all anymore.

When I went to court I was told by the judge in a very stern manor "Do it again and it's jail for you". I learnt my lesson the first time and that should be enough. I got warned next time is jail so I'd rather go a life without alcohol than ever set foot in a cell because of it.

I wonder what things would be like if the access to alcohol was more restricted instead of in every corner store?

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers. BB
