U won't believe this one - Bootscootin! - Djpete - 18-08-2006
Ok all went well with my trip to Wilson's Prom.
But I gave my cousin my windore smith boots to wear along with my leather jacket etc.
3/4 the way back I notice that the buckle part of the boots has scratched (and I mean scratched not rubbed!) both sides of the part above the rear footpegs. Mine are polished too!
I don't think it will buff out.
Any suggestions, best way to tackle it??
Little to say I WAS NOT impressed.
MAybe I can sue someone....Windsor Smith maybe??

BUGGAR!
If it is the pillion footpeg and pipe support bracket you are talking about, and they are simply polished and not painted or chromed.
You can rub them out with very fine wet and dry paper.
If the scratches are deep then use a harsher paper to start with and go to a superfine paper to finish off.
Now get out in the shed and fixem.

Pete, you could have them repaired and shiny better than new in the time it takes you to take them off. Let alone reassemble the back end.

Use the wet and dry paper as I explained up the discussion a bit further.
If you need to buy some. Make sure you get a combo pack of sandpaper.
It should have Fine (1200grain) Medium (800grain) and Coarse (600grain) sheets of paper in a pack.
Or just get the medium and fine paper in sheets.
When you rub with the paper, you wet it and it goes a bit pasty, sort of a course polish.
You start with the coarse paper to make the scratches go away and then work down to the fine paper to give a shiny surface. Then polish them off with a fine Metal polish like Purple or Autosol.
It should only take you an hour or so at most if you leave the brackets on the bike.
