Point 4 suggests the changes will have no impact on long term expats unless you have a spouse living in Oz with a residence, etc. For those on a short gig overseas, or a family back home, it would appear there is no longer going to be a tax benefit to the assignment (unless you have agreed on a net rate in a high tax rate country, or are in a tax equalization scheme).
Add this to the strong AUD, and going overseas has never looked so unattractive!

I think what the current australian government is trying to do is entice us to go overseas permanently. All i see is a taxon this and tax on that being planned for "our well being" like the booz tax. I love this country but not sure how much longer i can afford to live here. i wonder when the tax on the air we breath will come in.
