E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - jamieBezzina - 25-06-2009

Just spoke to ANDRA today Ken Dickie and E85 is not a Approved Fuel at Andra events if you are caught using it you may get a $10000 fine.Scary

Yep we were told that if we were running it & got caught you would lose any prize money, they also tested nearly every bike last time also, Nitros

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - spamanglenn - 25-06-2009

Sounds like politics and protecting vested interests,in my opinion.

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - simmo - 25-06-2009

They told us it was because it was not ready available to everyone,
Maybe people were drinking it while waiting for their next run Lol2

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - spamanglenn - 25-06-2009

maybe, but at 1 dollar a litre compared to $10+ for most race fuels i,m a bit suspicious.Careful they might ban michelins too if the mickey thompson sales slow down too much too.Time will tell.

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - abusa - 25-06-2009

Unfortunately this is correct. A few people are lobbying to have it added but there are a couple of obstacles holding it back.

From the ANDRA Approved Fuels list
Any fuel produced by an oil company that is available to the general public through a retail petrol station bowser in at least three ANDRA divisions.

Additionally the fuel must meet the Fuel Standards Act 2000 or be homologated as an aftermarket fuel at considerable cost.

At present there is actually 3 stations in 3 divisions retailing the fuel at a bowser but one is about to discontinue doing so.

If you want to run Ethanol there is only 2 options E15 and E100 which I believe is actually E99.95%

From the ANDRA Approved Fuels list
Any Methanol or Ethanol that has no performance enhancing additives.

Cheers

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - NEMESIS - 25-06-2009

Thats bullshit.
As in not fair.

You can get it at the pump.

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - abusa - 25-06-2009

Nem you can get it at the pump in NSW, Vic and SA for the time being. QLD was looking to be selling it but as only SAAB's are setup from standard to use it theres not a lot of call for it, well outside performance circles anyway.

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - Maj - 26-06-2009

So much for ANDRA's clean green image.... Lol3

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - jamieBezzina - 26-06-2009

Ya is sux but thats ANDAR one step faward three steps back. What a joke

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - 2wheelfreak - 26-06-2009

I still havn't see it for sale at a petrol stn yet. What would be required in setting up to run on it anyway? Similar to methanol?

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - 1320ft - 26-06-2009

Jamie,

Greg and I have overruled Ken before in regards to "pump fuels" here in sydney.

I am going to be taking this on aswell as the PS/B deal. Tuning a street car (or bike) on E85, is the only way to get it through emissions. So how can we tell you that you cant use a fuel that is legal on the street, at a race meeting.

As I told Rob and Carl yesterday, unnoficialy, use it.

Aaron (ANDRA)

PS (2wheelfreak)

You do need to set your fuel system up in a similar way to methanol. Bigger pump, bigger injectors etc. The benefit is the wider tuning tolerance like meth.

RE: E85 Race Fuel IS NOT A Approved Fuel - rctunesit - 27-06-2009

was reading in the paper, ethanol will be introduced into 95 and 98
very shortly, to be set no less than 2% to a max of 6%
over the next several years 91 unleaded will be increased to 15%
then to a max of 25%.

Holden sells the commodore to brazil that runs happly on e85

e85 can be purchased at a united servo at ryde, the manildra group
has 6 servo sydney area selling e85. we purchase ours at the servo
at milpera currently $1.05 pl
Shell was selling v power racing that was 98 with 10% ethanol.

one turbo bike we tuned was able to make an xtra 50 hp on e85,
detonation stop that bike at 220hp on 98 (standard comp)

Manny's bussa made a xtra 10hp on e85 with some ignition tuning, pc3
and a squeezed fuel reg.

Back to back testing on my black bird showed a xtra 12 hp on e85 over 98,
bike has a pc3, a hub and a dual map switch, run the bike localy on e85 and switch to
98 when i need too. You do use more off it, but still works out cheaper than 98.
Nice smell from the pipe as well.

Bike requires aprox 40% added to a pc3 full throttle
around 28% light load, just need to make sure your injector duty cycle stay below 90%.

Aaron, can you keep us informed with the e85 and andra's final word. Dont forget to mention our v8 supercars
are running the Stuff.

Robert

Aaron I assume you are only talking about Street Meets etc and not ANDRA Championship Rounds. Would start a bit of a shit fight if that was the case in Group 2 I would imagine.
Cheers
