Numb hand - Shawn - 06-06-2009

Whilst having a numb hand may be useful on occasion, I prefer it not be when Im riding my bike...Confused. as you guys know Ive had this less than a month and are still ironing out personalizing wrinkles... there are no bar ends to speak of on this and I suspect that this is not helping with the buzz that put my one and only hand to sleep after a couple of hours... Is this likely, ?... and if so where can I find a set that are not just lightweight and blingy...

Cheers
Shawn

Should have bar ends unless you got yours 2nd hand and they were missing. If so try a wrecker. Another option might be to try different grips like gel or foamies.

Yeah second hand. its got little aluminium domes in the ends, about as much use a chocolate fireguard, when it comes to vibration damping...Pretty though...ConfusedConfused

I might still have my stockers floating around somewhere, I'll see if I can dig them up. I have the same problem with numb hands, I've put it down to reduced blood flow to my hands because of the angle of my wrists on the grips. The reason I think this is it, is because it is considerably worse at low speeds, but happens over time at every speed. I know it isn't much, but I shake out my hands at each set of lights and can do it at up to silly kms/hr.

I've always just though it was part of the deal, I'm interested to see what other people come up with.

A set of Heli Bars will help, they bring the barsb upwards and back towards you, taking pressure off the wrists. I have a little osteo arthritis in my wrists and knees so I appreciate the bars.

Well it sort of makes sense to me, Ive had a lot to do with engineering and harmonics etc. pretty much any vibraton imparted on a large object ie: fork assembly will be amplified toward any lighter mass on the extremities of the object, ie grips...in some cases even the frequency can be doubled or quadrupled, and sometimes even go un-noticed. I would imagine that the weight of the original ends is calculated to be a happy compromise to deaden vibes at a broadish range of revs...without being ridiculously heavy, I had a long time ago considered improving the deadening on the old 1100 I had by using rubber as media between the bar and the dead weight... Never did try it though...fitting big soft grips is a compromise imho, no good for me though, my left hook would tear one to peices, and one of each would look ,,,well ,,,
yuckkkkk.....

G/day Shawn I believe the numb hands your experiencing would be contributed to weighting up the bars as you ride I had the same problem myself and the thing is you really don't notice it until it's to late, and it was ten fold when I had a pillion on.Solution was to use my legs more meaning squeeze the tank more with my knees as to hold my weight up.
Never had a issue with that again that is also why when you travel 120ks+ the wind holds your weight and would lesson the effect Pi_thumbsup

The stock bar ends are the weight that they need to be to stop the tingles.
I suggest you put some on the bike.

RE: Numb hand - Leviathan - 06-06-2009

holding the grips too tight can cause hand numbness. Try relaxing your grip & see if that helps.

Tried relax, tried taking weight off... Its definitely vibration amplification as a result of missing bar ends.. Its got plastic hemispheres protruding from the bar ends, and I cant see for the life of me how to get them out short of destroying them...Undecided. has anyone got an original bar end and tell me if its alloy or steel, I want to get an idea of weight required...Please....

Shawn 340 gram by the kitchen scales, inc the retaining screw.Same weight as the throttlemeister I replaced it with.

Stick the heavy standard weights back on if its a problem,
I binned mine, never noticed the difference,
.........then ride ride ride.

A bike often feels different after a few thousand K's for your body to adjust.
