ANZAC day - m8ee - 24-04-2009 Thanks to all serving - past and present - for maintaining the freedom of our country. Dawn service tommorrow, then our traditional bacon and eggs on the barbie with the family, and a couple of Rumbo's to toast the diggers for brekkie. We go to service at Sandgate. Who else is going and where?? RE: ANZAC day - matty85 - 24-04-2009 Well i am in the Navy and i will be up and marching in Tully, then heading back to Cairns to the RSL for a few beers and play a bit of two-up RE: ANZAC day - Heidi1 - 24-04-2009 Dawn service at the Australian War Memorial watching the sky lighten over ANZAC parade, then the march at 11 and a phone call to my Pa after lunch. Never miss it, catches me in the throat every time. RE: ANZAC day - VCM Cycle Seats - 24-04-2009 im up early and polish my pops 7 service medals an down to kogarah war mamorial bonax an rum with the diggers and march at local an then off to the pub for 2 up we as people are so foutunate to have what we have for the sacrifice of so many whom have fallen in battle to keep us safe as a nation lest we forget RE: ANZAC day - Pommie - 24-04-2009 You see us Poms, we been in more wars and skirmishes than you can shake a stick at. I'd be willing to bet theres never been a war without a Pom or two getting involved somewhere, invited or not, and apart from Armistice Day which starts at 9 and ends at 11 and a 2 minute silence at 11am on 11th of the 11th they do sweet fa for their old soldiers or their current serving ones. Makes me ashamed when I see the effort that goes into to it here. Thats speaking as an ex serviceman who saw active service in the Army twice. RE: ANZAC day - Heidi1 - 24-04-2009 You're right Pommie, war, scuffle, bar fight..... JOKING!! JOKING! I was in Gladstone for the dawn service last year, and the best thing about it was a mob of teenagers! They'd gotten up, dressed up and were there right in the thick of the service, just hanging out and paying their respects. Makes me confident about the memorials continuing. RE: ANZAC day - cheeky - 24-04-2009 our son wearing his grandads medals tomorrow.he was born on his grandads 75th bday.only grandson with his last name. son will be 16 next friday.grandad died 3 years ago in june then son going too small town 60 kms away and doing march again. not bad for a kid his age, since alot of them these days dont give a damn RE: ANZAC day - BUSGO - 24-04-2009 That is great cheeky. You are right a lot of the younger generation are lost as to why we bother. But the well adjusted ones know all about it. RE: ANZAC day - BUSGO - 24-04-2009 Our stupid morning DJs even had the audacity to ask why people wear Rosemary on ANZAC day? Can you believe it? RE: ANZAC day - Heidi1 - 25-04-2009 f*** it was miserable in Canberra at 5 this morning, sideways sleet coming in hard, visibility bugger all, a few thousand people rugged up to the ears. Still worth it. RE: ANZAC day - Mutha - 25-04-2009 Planned to go to the Dawn Service at the shrine and then March with my Grandfathers Medals. My sister rang in sick and my brother was hesitating so I pulled the plug. I haven't marched with Grand dads medals, since i was a kid & attending the service with my Grandmother... Ended up watching it on tv next year I'm there! RE: ANZAC day - andcad - 26-04-2009 LEST WE FORGET |
