10th Aniversary Ride - Heidi1 - 31-03-2009

Dear all

The club has been around for 10 years, it might be time to celebrate. The ACT Chapter has put their hands up to organise the meet which will replace the official Jindy meet this year.

After discussion with the admins, we've decided on the following to make the whole process as democratic as possible so that everyone that wants, gets a say.

Picking a location. A thread will be put up (for two weeks only) asking for suggested locations. You are encouraged to suggest a spot keeping in mind that it must have accommodation for up to 100 people (not necessarily all in the same place, but within walking distance), and a dinner venue for the same. It should also be discrete with good riding roads nearby.

Everyone is welcome to put up an indication of support for a location, but any flaming threads will be removed, the idea is that we find a location with the minimum of fuss. Once the two weeks is up, the thread will be locked and we will pick the most popular four spots. These four will then be voted on via a poll and our decision as a club will be made.

One of the locations will be the annual Snowys Ride.

Picking a date. Four dates will be given (towards the end of the year when it is a bit warmer) and we will vote on it with a poll. The dates will not clash with the Snowys ride or school holidays.

In addition, the idea is that people can participate in the event in a variety of ways, even if they cannot attend the ride. T-shirts will be printed commemorating the aniversary and they will be able to be purchased online. We will be developing a DVD (keep an eye out for when we call for material) and we may vodcast from the dinner.

I am putting this thread in the General Discussion so it is not overlooked. The poll for dates will be in the Riding not Talking thread and will be made sticky for the two weeks it is up.

Time to start getting organised.

heidi

RE: 10th Aniversary Ride - Astro - 31-03-2009

I'll plan to be there if at all possible.

As for suggested venues I'm not all that fussed and am happy to go "where ever", but just to get the ball rolling I was going to toss Broken Hill into the mix.

It has the facilities we require. It's got some history and character.

Its 1120km from Sydney, 850km from Melbourne, 1450km from Brisbane, 520km from Adelaide and 2800km from Perth (sorry to the WA crew). Its about as central as I can think of.

Downsides.... not discreet. Relatively active patrolling from what I've been told. It will be bloody hot in the November / December period. There may be some security issues so we'd need a venue that had out-of-sight parking for the bikes or we may need to hire o/n security (again, as mentioned by someone I know who lived there for 4 years). There are few 'scenic' alternatives to the main highways so there will be a bit of tedium.

I think I just talked myself out of it.

Anyway... its a suggestion to get the ball rolling.

My other suggestion is Coober Pedy.

RE: 10th Aniversary Ride - cheeky - 31-03-2009

my brother was at broken hill for the night, they had 4 small kiddies in same room.their cruiser looted and the rascals did their room while they slept..they had to walk over top of kids and reach too brothers wallet..stole the lot.

as an aunty i was upset that some horrible person was in the same motel room as my nieces and nephew.

grr

Broken hill would be good for an SA turnout (nice & close) but most
of the roads are straight highways, bit boring. Forget coober pedy
at that time of the year unless you WANT to ride dusty tracks in 50
degree heat (thats in the shade) A nice tropical beach would be good. TAHITI??

Great idea Heidi, I would like to suggest Tumbarumba, it's in the Snowies, central as you can get for the QLD and Victorian crews, and the Crow Eaters. Great roads, lots of accommodation available and few cops. What more can you ask - we are a fast club, it is imperative that we have as few Plod around as possible, that has got to be a consideration.

Cheers

RE: 10th Aniversary Ride - BUSGO - 01-04-2009

Well I'm booked into the Snowy Ride and apart from that i would like to once again suggest Griffith as a beautiful central location that fits the bill for requirements.
It is closer to SA than QLD but still would require only 1 overnight stop on the way down and back for most QLDers in the south of the state.

RE: 10th Aniversary Ride - Dan85 - 01-04-2009

Tathra or maybe even cooma. both have plenty of accomodation. good roads not alot of the plod and should be relatively empty during our intended visit. also if its held around cooma/south coast we could have a special bonus for all our speed freak members. thats all ill say bout that till a place is decided

RE: 10th Aniversary Ride - 01busa - 01-04-2009

Book me in, happy to follow the crowd

I will add my vote to Dan's suggestion, I have an idea what the special bonus might be and it would be incredible.2fast4u

RE: 10th Aniversary Ride - Heidi1 - 01-04-2009

My vote is Tathra, it is a beautiful spot, there is heaps of accomodation and really spectacular roads. You can get off the coast and ride some beautiful roads up and down the escarpment. AND it is close to what Dan has in mind.
