Tyre Pressure - Krusty - 29-03-2009
Hey people ,the little woman is complaining about a rough ride at the back which has made me think firstly about my tyre pressure .
I'm running both on 38 psi 1 up and 2 up.Is this right?Any input would be appreciated.

Should be 42psi front and back but I prefer 40 front and 42 rear.
Same solo or two up.
If she thinks it is too hard at the pressures you have. Maybe your springs have been played with and are not on stock settings.
I suggest putting them back to the standard settings and work from there with suspension rather than tyre pressures.
This advice is for the road and especially touring.

thanx mate ,I checked the tyres and it shows 42 as well.the boys I went for a ride with today down to stanwell tops are running a lot softer.
I do normally run 40front 42 rear,I was hoping for the easy way out.I,m now hoping the manual has the default factory settings.thanx again mate.

i run factory pressures 42 front and rear even when two up no complaint from wife

ok thanx very much guys for the input.Im thinking it must be my shocky setting now,ain't much left.I had an ohlins on my 1100 but I don't think it would've made that much diff.

more pressure,less feel,lighter steering,better life.Less pressure,more feel,more grip,better ride,heavier steering,shorter tyre life.A good rear shock makes a massive difference to the passengers comfort.I remember going pillion on dads zzr1100 before and after an ohlins rear shock,night and day.

thanks again mate.my bike is an 04 with 45 thou on the clock.Little bit of oil residue on the bottom of the shock.mm
the other guys I mentioned have a gsxr 1100 and a zx9.both are runnin low 30's which I think is too low.I normally run the standard 40 -42.It's looking like the shocky then,bugger.

Maybe you should buy a front & rear Corbin Seat for sale in the sales section.
That'll save her arse & all the pain she's going through.
Either that or a new Merc from your friendly cage dealer.

yeah grunt I've been looking at the corbins,not bad.cheaper than an ohlins rear too.Not sure on this gen 1 and 2 stuff? Its an 04 model does that help or am I making a fool of myself here?

Different tyres will have different ride characteristics too. My good pillion could feel the difference when I fitted Bridgestone 020s - much harder ride.

Wet Tyre Pressure.
From what Ive read for wet weather use the tyre should be inflated at least at the recommended pressure (more rather than less) which for the Busa is 42psi front and back to ensure that the grooves have not "collapsed" making them trap water.

to collapse the grooves you would have to drop alot more pressure than 10psi from recoomended pressures.
fully inflated = slippery on the busa,
36psi = no one around me for minutes in the wet :)
this is my personal experience however, proved worthy on icy cold and wet tasmanian roads around cradle mountain especially
i did only get about 3300km's from my set of brand new rubber though

I would think that too soft a tyre and you run the risk of peeling the tyre off.It sounds like a case of suck it and see whats best without falling off.

Somehow I think they might be off a 2004, infact, I'm almost certain.
They will not fit on a 2008, that's for sure.
No. you're not making a fool of yourself. I wasn't sure either, until the spare parts salesman that rides a Busa at Procycles at Hornsby told me about the AHC when I bitched about the crap fairing fasteners on the K8 that always give me grief until I discovered Devcon Plastic Welder.
