want a job in the motorcycle industry - bigfoot - 18-12-2008 hi everyone i am ready for a career change and desperately want to follow my dream job doing something in the motorcycle industry. i am looking for a job in the Brisbane/Gold Coast area. i'm 17 and have worked as an apprentice for 2 years at O'briens windscreens, im hard working always on time and would love anything to do with bikes. if anyone knows someone who works in a motorcycle shop, it would be extremely appreciated if you could let them know that someone is eager to start work in a bike shop, thanks everyone and a very Merry Christmas to all. ![]() RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - Missy_Moo - 18-12-2008 You may find the career you want if you do find a shop to work in Bigfoot. However the flip side of this is that it may dishearten / disallusion you. By all means go for your dream job, you are so young and have many years of career changes ahead of you, mainly its what you make of it. You may find threads in here that have covered this subject previously. Good luck job hunting. RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - bigfoot - 18-12-2008 thanks heaps RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - spamanglenn - 18-12-2008 don,t work in the industry thats your hobby unless its your passion and not your relaxation. I got out because I wanted to work on bikes on my terms. Plus, the money really sucks. RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - lee8sec - 19-12-2008 Keep doing windscreens & finish the course. Its easier to go out and work for your self when your older. Yes iam a mechanic, got out of it 6 years ago, you work hard for SFA. Leigh RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - BLACKZOOK - 19-12-2008 Biggy if you are 2 years into an apprenticeship any apprenticeship you would be silly to leave. Stick it out and get your trade papers even if you never intend t work at that trade again its a qualification that will help you get a better job later. I hire people all the time and there are thousands out there that have half of this or that trade but few who stick it out till the end. You still have plenty of time to float around from job to job but with a trade under your belt the choices and the money will be much better. My 2c. RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - BLACKZOOK - 19-12-2008 Funnily enough I sound like my dad, its the small sometimes impulsive decisions that can define the course of our lives. Think it through mate. I started off as a tradesman carpenter and now earn 5 times the average carpenters wage. RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - Missy_Moo - 19-12-2008 Exactly, finishing your trade is important. Whether you use it again or not, the base of it shows you finished something. If there is something you like or may help you take the next step in a better job, study via distance at home while you are finishing your trade. Get a head start. That will show prospective employers that you are keen and committed. RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - BUSGO - 19-12-2008 A course in customer services would be a good start for something to have in your pocket when job hunting in the Bike shops. You could do that part time while you finish your trade. (In saying that, I realise that you are 17 and probably don't fancy going to adult education) RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - SteveV - 19-12-2008 Of course you could always follow the traditional path to your future at your age, sex, drugs and rock'n'roll ;-) Some people turn the passion into their income, but usually working for themselves. For most I think work turns their passion into drudgery, so be carefull because passion is the import part. I am grateful for the mechanical knowledge I gained in that time although I would never go back to swinging spanners for a living. RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - Maj - 19-12-2008 Another ex mechanic went from full time drugery to hobby , opened doors to part time race team stuff that i learnt more on in 6 mths than probably the previous few years.. RE: want a job in the motorcycle industry - GiddyUp - 19-12-2008 Good advise Glenn. (Re:don,t work in the industry that's your hobby unless its your passion and not your relaxation. ) But we were all young once. I wanted to be a spray painter. I managed to do that for nearly 10 years........ ![]() I think I'll stick to my new chosen occupation. ![]() ![]() Good luck with your projects Bigfoot! Cheers, Phil.
