Cheesecake! - wearlej - 31-07-2005 The engine, the engine she goes bang... big end bearing I think... bah --------------------------------- Who Dares Bins Re: Cheesecake! - GDYUP - 31-07-2005 More info wearlej... Under what circumstances? How many klms on your bike? Sound like a worry. All the things that fall apart, the motor usually isn't one of them??? Re: Cheesecake! - wearlej - 31-07-2005 55000km Been living at redline with it a lot lately... Off to the mech tomorrow, have thrown enough conrods in holden red motors to know what a rooted big end sounds like, so not all that optimistic....... --------------------------------- Who Dares Bins Rods etc - Maj750t - 31-07-2005 Hope it turns out to be a simple fix , like a timing chain tensioner Motors arn't cheap as the busa powered mini car market seems to have set the price for a motor at around $5k although there was a motor with no extras on ebay for ~2.5k a while ago If you need parts Gazza has some pistons, i have some standard rods 14000kms in good condition, i have had bike cranks reclaimed by Paul England engineering in (its been a while i may have to check) i think Ascot vale rd Essendon for $400/journal. Re: Rods etc - Max - 31-07-2005 Crook news mate, broked motors suck as they keep you off the road for months and no bastard in the industry seems to want your parts ordered or in nearly as badly as you.. Hope you get it back together sooner bloke. Cheers Max Madmax - GSX1300R Black and Blue Buses Rule Good Bike, Good Woman, Good Road, Good Weather, Good God - Good Bye! Smith and Wesson - The original point and click interface. broken motors - kawasuki - 01-08-2005 All you rider out there that give your motors a rough time should be using Militec in your motor, at least it will help you not costing big Re: broken motors - wearlej - 01-08-2005 Yep, it's definitely a big end.. Anyone know where I can pick up a crank? Might take you up on the offer of those rods mate... --------------------------------- Who Dares Bins Re: broken motors - BUSGO - 01-08-2005 @#%$ mate. What a bugger. Where did you lunch it and how did you get home? I guess you won't make it to the Sydney Spannering session then. This job is too big for us clowns. Rgds BUSGO broken motors - Blackkat - 01-08-2005 Good luck getting a crankshalft. I think I got the last one from metros . You can get a crank in the US for around Us$600 plus shipping if you get stuck -$1600au from Westerns. Make sure you replace oil strainer, oil pump and throughly clean out oil galleries etc. Number 4 main if I remember correctly- generally caused by a lack of oil etc . If you need any help let me know. Leonard. Re: broken motors - wearlej - 01-08-2005 Lunched on the Tourist Rd just near the top of mac pass, fortunately a mate of mine lives in Robertson, so he rode home and grabbed his bongo van, we loaded it into the back of that and I drove it home My mechanic (Lloyd Penn) is stripping the engine down now to get a better idea of what is going to need doing.. --------------------------------- Who Dares Bins Re: broken motors - Maj750t - 01-08-2005 Checked my spare rods and there still good, no rust (they went to the salt lakes this year as spectators not workers) I also checked the address in case you need it for Paul England , they welded, reground & nitrided a gpz900 crank journal for me a couple of years ago , worked out better and cheaper than buying a s/h crank , But it depends on the damage. www.paulengland.com.au/contacteng.htm See if you and your mechanic can figure exactly what happened so you can make sure it doesn't repeat. Re: broken motors - rev 01 - 01-08-2005 Did the oil pressure light come on ? maybe do the high volume oil pump mod while it's in bits ? The yanks reckon it doesn't pay to run these things hard with anything less than a full sight gauge of oil, checked properly Another good reason to have two wheel stands or someone to sit on the bike for you while you check. Hope it all works out ok for you broken motors - Blackkat - 01-08-2005 Just checked my old crank it's actually no 1 big end . Also if you had slipping clutch problems the fibre material can clog the pickup causing similar failures. Greg I'll give that guy a try, maybe able to do somthing with my old crank.Thanks. Leonard. #1 Big End - gazza414 - 02-08-2005 When abused they are the 1st to go. Other than that... they arent cheese and living at high rpm isnt an issue. Entire motor needs to be stripped and thoroughly cleaned and inspected. YOU NEED TO ASCERTAIN WHAT WAS THE CAUSE as Leonard mentioned RATHER THAN "JUST" FIX IT> Re: #1 Big End - wearlej - 02-08-2005 I suspect from where the sound was coming from that it's the #1 that's gone, what's the high volume oil pump mod? and no, stupid oil light didnt do anything.. obviously one of those warning lights that only illuminates AFTER the guts of the engine are strewn about upon the road..... --------------------------------- Who Dares Bins |
