Crap night - Pommie - 11-10-2008
Just got in from work, really fancied a drink so bought a bottle of rum on way home. Got through the door and dropped the bastard on the tiles, smashed to shit. What a crap night

Ive got a still spirits 25L super reflux still. From 25L of wash it can churn out about 4-5L of 90% alcohol. water it down to 40% and you got 10L. Add essence of whatever spins your wheels and you got grog for a cost of about $8 a litre and it tastes better than the commercial gear and you dont get as nasty a hangover if you want to "hit the tiles"
Its was economically viable for me to spend the $1200 for the set-up as I drink a litre a week. I effectively paid off the still in no time.

Horndog - have you tried to make your own RUM yet? Im not talking adding Still Spirits essence to your base but from scratch - BUT a wash made from molasses....
I gave it a shot some years back - made about 20 Litres reduced to about 50% and i let it sit on oak for about 6 months ( after adding some caramelized sugar) --- tried it --- Tasted like rocket fuel - or if your old enough to remember tasted/smelt like that crap they used to use in school to make stencils :)
put 2 bottles aside - tossed the rest --- FORGOT about those 2 bottles for about 2 years - found them after i moved house - cracked one open ...... smell ---- wow this smells good nothing like it did when i tossed the rest --- done a taste test - my RUM verses Bundy rum - Mine was smoother and better tasting .... so at that point i kicked my own ass for not being patient.... Friend who is a DEVOUT bundy drinker also said it was better and he wanted to some bottles from me ....
so recently i have made about 50 Liters- stuck it under the stairs - occasionally give it a good shake to get the wood chips to circulate and do there thing. so hopefully in 2 years time i will have grade "A" rum - and lots of it :)

Had a mate back in UK who was working in Eastern block countries advising on sewage systems. This was before Berlin wall was down and Glasnost, but he used to smuggle Vodka out in the washer bottle of his car. Well over 100% proof alcohol. You couldnt taste it, just numbed the lips as it touched, then burnt like the fires of hell on the way down. That and Poccine had to be the most evil crap ever invented. the Irish used to knock the poccine up from potatoes and bog water or some sort of concotion like that. I havent tried it yet but have done a bit of research on the traditional method. If I ever get the time I was planning on making a pot still and picking up some molasses from a stock feed joint. The pot still lets a little bit of colour through unlike the reflux stills but produces a lower alc/vol content.

You can rename the Club as Ulysses then
