www.dlra.org.au/lgairdner2.htm
Riding there is fine if you don't mind the 160kms of red dust broken up by rocky outcrops and sand.
Surprising what does drive in.

Dave , most info you would need is here
www.dlra.org.au/ just too much to describe in 1 post,
but if you have any interest at all then you have to do it

Re: Totally responsible - pan - 07-09-2005

Doesn't sound like fun getting there. Maybe if a few of us were serious about it we could hire a big old trailer and get our bikes there together...?

let's go to the lake... - pan - 07-09-2005

6th -10th March 2006

What do people think?
Is it worthahving a think about soon?
Anyone from NSW already definitely going?

Re: let's go to the lake... - Djpete - 07-09-2005

sorry to put a dampener on all this but from what I understand from speaking to Greg, the salt causes big problems with the bikes and gets in everywhere.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.. Cheers,
Pete

It is something I have always wanted to do, I think speed week is on the week that I am traveling back from Perth, so I might stop in and have a go.

salt - Maj750t - 07-09-2005

needs a bloody good clean after, cad plating will not be the same,
Went to start the salt bike last Friday , no go, clutch switch all corroded up, i'm thinking of replacing my wiring before it becomes unreliable , this time i will hot glue the backs of all the non waterproof connections

There is a stuff called Salt X which can be sprayed on before you go near the salt.

Re: salt - rocket rod 7777 - 07-09-2005

Another thing you have to take into account is wheel slippage as Maj has told me.You dont get the same traction as with a tared rd.I think it would be pretty hard to get the 300 with a std busa on the salt? Phuck its the phantom!

Re: salt - pan - 07-09-2005

Hmmm, maybe the Northern Territory is the go...

Re: salt - Maj750t - 07-09-2005

300 is possible, 320 is the target for a production type bike
current record holder in production is Grant Schlein at 198.3 mph or modified is Gazza at 204.6 mph, if you want to try nitrous or non petrolium fuels Hawkwind has the record at 202.0 mph , bigbore (above 1350) Gazza holds at 217 .75 and turbo is my record at 223.3 mph

Re: salt - Maj750t - 07-09-2005

Mine and Hawkwinds are the classes with the most scope for improvement.
There is also many classes without a record , my first year i set a record at 173mph running on 3 cyls only because no one had run that class before.
$100 dlra membership fee(life time) and $250 to race .
(for some reason posts bigger than this bounce )

unsalted - Djpete - 07-09-2005

that's 359kph if my calc are correct.
mamamia!

Re: unsalted - hawkwind racing - 07-09-2005

I don't know if any of you blokes have heard of John Noonan , Joe Amo , Dennnis Clanton or Hank booth (big speed guys from the States ) if all goes as planned they and their bikes including ack attack ( 300+mph streamliner ) will be at the 06 speed week , the streamliner is arranging for an FIA world speed record at Gairdner ,well worth attending just to see history being made

Re: unsalted - RaZ80 - 07-09-2005

ok... am I the only one to not really wanna ride on salt roads ? grip?? What grip?

I would love to do it but I think I'd find the bike feeling like I am aquad plaining all over the place, I couldn't trust the front and under any kind of breaking either.

Or have I got it all wrong?

Coz I'd rather take my chance's on a tared road no matter where it is next to the risk I think there might be to sliding on salt @ 290kph "Busa riders always count in three's.... 100, 200, 300"

Re: unsalted - Maj750t - 08-09-2005

RaZ80 its like riding on a hard packed dirt road, maybe a bit more traction than hard dirt, better than most wet roads

Also new record just set John Noonan 259+ at bonneville
fastest sit on bike in the world.

Re: unsalted - Djpete - 08-09-2005

around 300kph on slightly better than a wet road.
Leave ya with it Greg.
I just like to watch.
U got bigger balls than me! Cheers,
Pete
