just got me a trickle charger, but the battery is still f**kt(probably from all the charging I did, before getting my own charger with 'trickle' switch)

BatteryDirect quoted $150-$250

I was not happy when original battery failed orded a gel replacement through Batteryman on ebay cheap delivered to door has lasted 18 months so far so happy with battery. Have recently invested in a 4003 Ctek charger for boat batteries and have set up to use on Busa Battery to supplement charge. All working well.

Been sitting there with the trickle charger on it for about 4 weeks now, go to start it up and the battery is still flat ??

This is starting to get expensive

I've had similar problems and lo, changed the rectifier/regulator and problem solved.
prior to that had the trickle charger. It should only take a few minutes to restore power used for a start. The alternator can put something like 65A max. and starting peak would only be 100A (maybe) for a few seconds. So a few minutes and it should be OK.
If a bike shop is saying it needs 100km to restore the battery, go to another shop.
Second hand regulator as well.
