I highly recommend the Frogg Toggs for breath-ability and waterproofing - be it the best combination of both that I've found so far. They have updated the line to include several different options. My only complaint from wearing them on a sport-bike was the original designs "billowing" at speed, not that it ever interfered with my riding, but, the constant push-pull, buffeting, etc. was a bit annoying after the first few kilometers.

First Gear has always made good quality stuff as well, but, some of their offerings - though definitely 100% waterproof - offer little or no breath-ability meaning that you are just as wet from perspiration by the time you reach your destination as if you hadn't a stitch of rain gear on during the downpour.

Best of luck in your search.

RE: Opinions on Wet Weather Gear - 06BUSA - 27-01-2012

Hey Kev, the misses and I have the dry rider 2 piece wet weather gear. Rode in a lot of rain and have found them to be very good. ie no water under them at all. When riding the BMW gt I can have the coat over the pants but on the Busa I have to tuck the coat into the pants otherwise the wind pushs the coat bottom up and I get wet around my kidneys. Looks dorky but i dont care as long as im dry and warm. The 2 piece costs about $120 and folds very small. Had it for 2 yrs now and still like new. I was keen to try the 1 piece, might be better on the Busa. Hope this helps. Chris

I use a Dri Rider 1 piece "Condom Suit". Works well, it's thin so you just stop and pop it over whatever your wearing. Cheap to.

Kev is it for being used for daily commute or are you planning a trip ??? as there is 2 options as mentioned above but one might be suited depending on what sort of riding your planning doing..

RE: Opinions on Wet Weather Gear - big kev - 27-01-2012

Rev the suit will be used for both i run my wifetobee to work every day and we are sick of getting drowned like rats lol

RE: Opinions on Wet Weather Gear - Shifu - 27-01-2012

I avoid riding in the wet if possible because of the washing and polishing that is needed after to kepp it shiny Smitten Howevewr I was looking at an emergency solution if I was to get caught in the rain. At first I was considering sort of disposable (use once and throw away) think, but came across the DriRider one piece suit. It fits over the leathers and the waterproofing seems to be very good. It also folds into a very small package you can fit under the hump Pi_thumbsup For a $100 you can go no wrong with it. Not sure of durability as I only used it twice so far.

RE: Opinions on Wet Weather Gear - Rev004 - 28-01-2012

Hi Kev

I've done a few trips across Aus and have used both types of suits for the trip and both have there pros and cons..

The 2 Piece was Great as I could use it all year round as the Thermal Lining etc was removable but I found that in really bad conditions that it would start to leak but where talking extreme. Otherwise the 2 Piece was very Good....

The last trip I did I had a One Piece and must admit it was surprisingly good and was very easy to carry. As Shifu mentioned the 1 Piece packs up nice and tight and is very easy to carry and if it looked like rain is all to convenient to pull over and chuck it on. I also had a minor issue with the 1 Piece leaking also in extreme condition in the crutch area but otherwise the suit was very good as well.

If I was commuting daily I would be inclined to use the 1 Piece as you can get dressed and it's as simple as putting it on and taking it off when you get there so for practicality and ease I would lean this way.
If I was doing more the long distance stuff I would probably go with the 2 Piece I just found the 2 Piece a better fit and more comfortable on the longer hauls especially across Aus.

This was the main reason why I had both 1 Piece for everyday use and the 2 Piece for the weekends away of in some cases weeks nd would have to agree with what has been mentioned about the 1 Piece Dri Rider both normal wet weather suit and the quilted. The Quilted is excellent in Winter but doesn't quite pack up as tight but both 1 Piece Suits are excellent for the price.

So there you go that's my 2 cents worth both options are both very good it really comes down to what you and the cook are happy with so have fun and there's plenty of good brands out there.

Good thread Kev....
With all this damn rain i was going to look at some this week too!!!

DriRider 1 piece seems the way to go!

RE: Opinions on Wet Weather Gear - Maj - 28-01-2012

Always carried a one piece, and a couple of food handlers rubber gloves and a couple of shopping bags for the feet
when there is a chance of rain or going on an extended trip , gets bloody cold down here when its wet .

RE: Opinions on Wet Weather Gear - TonyTripleA - 29-01-2012

Indeed a great thread as my solution of the last two years is now letting me down.

I've used an RST polyester welded seem waterproof jacket over my leather jacket for touring. This is quite a thin jacket, packs very small, and is light. But it stops wind and rain 100%, or has up till last week. And this overjacket was comfy too. I tested it in some of the heaviest rain I've ever seen in New Zealand, boy that west coast gets wet. At Haast it was pathetic weather. Not a drop leaked, except one day when my jumper hung out of my pants and got wet... that was a wet experience! Anyway for two years its been great, and I had a naked bike to boot before the Busa. Last weekend I put it on in a heavy shower coming back up McCarrs Creek road (my wife and I love an early breakfast at Palm Beach in sydney). The old faithfull jacket was over my mesh jacket and the water just oozed straight through. Waterproofing gone. A note inside the jacket says application of a special silicone spray will help retain the waterproofing but I think its too late.

My pants solution is simple, RJays textile waterproof pants and a spare pair from Aldi (great quality one third the price). No leaks there yet. I wear the textile pants over jeans most of the year unless its really hot or I think the leathers are warranted.... he, he, he, and those days I try and make sure its fine.

So would I buy the RST jacket again... well, not if I only get two years out of it. So the dri-rider could be the go... I'll let you know what I get, as I have to get something before the superbikes, cause I know I'll get wet on the way!

Had a dri rider one piece for years. It was good. Now have a motoline one piece with the high fishing wader type waist behind the zip. Every bit as good as the dri rider however it was a good bit cheaper and rolls up into a smaller package. I think it was on special for about $90, Paul.
