Running Hot?? - Busauser - 04-01-2012 Hi. I have had a spell from Sports bikes, and can't remember how hot a full faired bike should feel. I get a lot of hot air on my lower legs and the bike smells a little hot after a hard ride. The guage is usually just under halfway, and no sign of overheating to the point of damage, ( I hope). Just wondering do Busa's tend to feel hot after a ride?, and should the thermofan kick in often. Mine has only ever ran once that I can remember, and that was only for a short time. cheers tim ![]() RE: Running Hot?? - Dale - 04-01-2012 (04-01-2012, 03:59pm)Busauser Wrote: Hi. My thermo fans have kicked in once (that I have noticed) in over 12 months of owning it (mine's a 2001) and I was stuck in traffic on a bloody hot day .. temp gauge went just over half. Cheers .. Dale RE: Running Hot?? - 06BUSA - 04-01-2012 My temps about the same but doesn't get hot to ride on legs, even in north queensland, always wear jeans so I suppose that helps. Try an FJ1300 now there's a bike that gets hot to ride. RE: Running Hot?? - Madmax - 04-01-2012 (04-01-2012, 04:10pm)Dale Wrote: Mine is the same mate, temp gauge sits just below half way. They are all pretty well the same mate. They sit just below the red mark at halfway under usual conditions until you do something different - like sitting in traffic on a hot day, The thermo-fan will activate until the tempoerature drops back to under halfway and then cut out. Not sure about the smell you're getting though unless you've got some new paint or replacement engine part/s. Hope this helps. Max RE: Running Hot?? - Dale - 04-01-2012 With regards to your "burning smell" when you pull up .. It's not just chain lube being thrown onto the pipe is it ?? .. Just a thought ![]() (04-01-2012, 04:25pm)06BUSA Wrote: My temps about the same but doesn't get hot to ride on legs, even in north queensland, always wear jeans so I suppose that helps. Have Yamahaha advanced to water cooled yet ?? ![]() RE: Running Hot?? - Busauser - 04-01-2012 The smell is like hot oil, not burning hot, and not drastic. Even after a short ride, there is a bit of heat coming from the end of the exhaust pipes, but I really don't think it is overheating badly. The coolant bottle stays at same level. My Fuel gauge drops to 3/4 and stays there until empty, so I was wondering if the temp gauge was inaccurate as well, and maybe I am running a bit hot. I guess a trip to the shop and a quick data analysis might be the go. If you're getting an oil smell, it might be coming from oil spilt on the headers at the last oil change? or as Dale suggests, could be schain lube. I know when the shop was doing my warranty services they used to drop oil on the pipes every bloody time so I rode around with that smell for a few days until it burnt off. Just a thought. Max RE: Running Hot?? - Legend - 04-01-2012 I try to avoid giving advise on the forum, heaven knows there's plenty on here that know more than me about the Busa ![]() BUT I couldn't help myself so I pass on some. When ever I work on someones Busa I always check to make sure the fan acually does turn on when its supposed to, rather than the customer find out it doesn't when their stuck in traffic. Some thing everyone who commutes or rides in traffic should do once in a while..... Remember there are no dumb questions, just dumb people. My 2 cents worth.
