Honda cafe racer . . . one day!! - Ward P - 31-12-2011

Picked it up the other day, and so the fun begins . . .

this is how I took it off the trailer

the 1st thing that went was the "beautiful" tank protector.

Thin isn't it, and light too.

Supposed to be a 650 (engine case sayes 591 and has bigger crank Read)

Its 1st bath, and to check it's all there. Very happy with its overall condition

So far . . .

all that's left to do is . . . everything!

Nice mate, alloy tank, drop bars, flat seat?

Your collection is growing I had better buy some more bikes you are catching up.

Put the bar-end mirrors on. looks tuff(bit like an angry chihuahua)Lol3

have ordered, white Brother's ceramic header pipes, gators, sticker stripes.

Stuck on the seat at present, want a flat seat with rear cowl, but can't find the right one. Once headers arrive need to find a "tough" little exhaust.

I stuck it on the centre stand . . . and nearly threw it out the door. Lol3

but need a set of XL/XR500 exhaust collars and yokes for the new exhausts.
Anybody got a wreck lying about ??

RE: Honada cafe racer . . . one day!! - Ward P - 08-02-2012

Fitted the new headers. Got hold of the XL500 collars, but yoke holes didn't line up. Cut up old pipes to steal those. All good now. Was hoping I could get away without a muffler because the header is black and just seems to dissappear and look very minimal, but as soon as I started it I knew it would not be possible. Even a idle it was damb near deafening. Even so, took it out and gave it a blast to see if the new pipe would let it breathe better. It just cracks the TON. Pi_thumbsup (Totally deaf now - scared the hell out of some pedestrians when it backfired coming back into town Lol3. So with a pipe, some carby work and a good tune it should punt along very nicely.

Oh, and it now has a little stripe down the tank and the "GB400" has gone from the sidecovers. (It is a 600 after all!)
Thinking I will either cut down that front gaurd, or lose it all together. Gators have arrived. Still stuck on the seat.

starting on the seat.

will be same colour silver as rest, with the same tank stripe, and a little sticker on the back.

not sure what to put on the sides, was thinking either a number or "thumper" or maybe both??

Cathys seat doesn't look to comfy mate, You'll have to build a bike for her .

RE: Honda cafe racer . . . one day!! - Ward P - 13-08-2012

Seat has been painted, now at the upholsterer.

in the mean time, doing a bit of polishing over some dodgy painted alloy bits.
one side done . . .

bloody slow hard work, also done one fork leg.
buggered . . . must be beer o'clock!

What an absolute beauty. I think you've gone the right way with the rear seat and cowel. Is she staying silver?
