Get a "bagster" great protection for your tank, the pack isn't too big, but will expand and you can get a slab in it if you try hard!! You also keep the hump, and gives you something to lean on for those 'longer' rides. I don't want a pickle . . .

Agreed + as a bonus there is no speed/handling issues or worrys about losing/checking your load all the time. Bagster gets tripple from me (I want my commission now ) I lost a Rjays Top box at 180 kms once (Under private conditions) Nothing broke or anything the poor thing just could not hang on any more
Isn't it Ironic that my Favourite Stretch of Tarmac is called C.O.P.
Here's mine when loaded.
1 x Gear Sak 1 x Rear seat bag with extendable top. 2 x Throw-over panniers, extendable sides. 1 x Tank bag This pick shows the rear seat bag & pannier fully extended. Great for a single long trip. Still got plenty of space for 2 up without the rear seat bag. Only issue I had was the extended panniers drooped onto the exhaust. Look real close & you can see a blue piece of condensed foam on the back seat which raised the panniers + 2 stretchy straps helping to support the weight.

That is a LOT of gear Lowai, remind me, was that when you were moving state? I remember being very impressed at the time.
For a big trip, I do the 60 litre ventura bag with the ventura rack (which is a bit shit, but seems to be the only thing on the market) and a bagster tank cover and bag. I put the ventura bag on the pillion seat behind me (keeping the weight over the back tyre) which leaves the back of the rack for a sleeping bag if I need it. PERSONALLY, I find that is enough gear for when you are unpacking the bike each night and carrying all that shit into your room or up stairs in a pub. Whatever you carry, you need to be able to do it in one trip, because two trips to the bike leaves your gear vunerable to thieving f*&^ing hounds. Just a tip.

Yeah Heidi, That pic was taken when I moved from Bris to Melbourne. That particular time I had to take enough gear (work stuff, clothes, living things etc) to last me 3mths until the whole house & wife moved. After 2yrs, the trip back to Brissy was a little lighter as most things went with the removalist. On the bike I only had the Ventura bag & the tank bag. Was quite comfy. Lay forward on the tank bag, put the feet on the back pegs. Was almost able to have a snooze......

How does it effect handling? and it looks like the pillion seat can still be added ? How about pillion pegs/legroom etc. ?? 3 hard cover bags - including the brackets must nearly double the value of the bike? I don't want a pickle . . . |
